What Does Money Really Have To Do With It?

  1. Hello Carly, one thing that you stated that I loved was when you said education is one of the most important things to have in life. I love that you put this in there because teachers are underpaid. Teachers are quitting due to being underpaid and the frustration of not having help. It makes me sad to know that education isn’t being taken seriously. People don’t look at our career at all. We shape the little kids going through school. We are the ones educating them. Money plays a huge role for anything but I think it plays a bigger role for education. Education depends on money. Everything that we need costs money for public schools. When everything got moved online the school districts were struggling because not all schools own computers or IPads to give out to students. One thing I’ve noticed is many teachers do a lot online. It saddens me to know that only certain school districts are successful due to the funding that’s getting taxed.

  2. Hello Carly! I loved getting to read your post for this week. When I first spoke to my mom about wanting to teach she was not happy. She kept pushing me to look into other career fields where I could help and socialize with others while getting a fair wage. She had a right to be nervous. For the majority of my life she was a stay-at-home mom. My father thankfully could provide for our family of three but when I was in middle school she went into working as a floater in a preschool to be busy again and work with children. She saw firsthand how much work her teacher coworkers had to put in. They would come in early to set up the classroom with all these fun activities day after day. They adored their jobs and their students loved them for it and got to grow in a beautiful environment. But the ugly truth was that to create these experiences and to still pay their own bills, they had to have second and even third jobs outside of the classroom. So I understand that my mom was worried about seeing my future be like theirs. And I still don't know what my life will look like and whether or not I will have to have multiple jobs. But my mom now understands that there simply is not another job out there for me. To me, teaching is the only thing I can see myself happily doing. So, my hope for us is, of course, to get fair wages, but also to have the dedication and passion that the teachers at my mother's school had. I admire them for everything they do and I only hope to have the same classroom for myself and my students.

    1. Hi Bella thank you for your comment and feedback, it means alot. It is so important that our schools get the help they need to properly teach its students. I also agree with you on how you think teaching is the only job you see yourself being happy doing, i feel the exact same way. The world needs more great teachers!

  3. Hey Carly! I think this discussion post you made was very well written and I appreciate your perspective. I have always loved the thought of being a teacher, but in complete transparency, the salary has completely pushed this idea out of my mind. While teaching is notorious for low pay, I feel like we have all heard about "Pink Collar" jobs, which are other fields also dominated by women, that have incredibly low average salaries. For example, social work, secretarial work, child care, anything in the beauty industry, etc. While I do believe it is important for teachers to be paid more, part of me wonders if this is less of a career matter and more of a sexist situation. I agree with you fully, money has everything to do with it and it's incredibly frustrating to see that money only seems to be an issue when the issue at hand isn't top priority. I have never heard of a football team being underfunded, but I have heard about kids in the same exact school not having enough money to get lunch. There is plenty of money, the problem is that education and teachers are clearly a low priority for a majority of communities.

    1. Hi Haley thank you for your comment and feedback on my blog this week. money is so important in our lives and i think it is so sad that and how are world is completely revolved around it. Our schools should not have to suffer from this. Education is so important and money should not determine someones right to an education.
