Hello Carly! I loved reading your post for this final module in class. I also liked your blackout poem and the words you chose to emphasize. I agree with your choices and mine looks pretty similar! One important one that stood out to me was the emotional aspect of our students. When teaching we will do a lot of hidden teaching. In the ways we run our classroom and lesson, we will unintentionally or not even realize that we teach kids certain messages. In the module, they mentioned how sometimes hidden curriculum is what sticks with us the most and that could not be more true. I know there are topics or conversations that I remember that sometimes had nothing to do with school but I still apply or think over. Students absolutely deserve the right to learn and to learn well. As teachers, we have to truly think before we speak and have the right intentions behind our words, want the best for our students, and want the best equally.
hey Bella, thank you for your comment. it is so important as future teachers that we change the way of schooling and make it a better environment for our students. education is one of the greatest things the world has to offer
Hey Carly!! You did such a great job on your blog this week!! I really love the words that you chose to highlight in your black out poem! I totally agree that our curriculum should be tailored so that no red flags come across, I love this analogy that you used, it paints a great picture for the things that should be going through our minds! I think that the way we are creating the lesson for our class should also be made to empower the students in the class through not only the explicit curriculum but also the hidden and especially null curriculum. As teachers we should be fighting for some of the null curriculum or perspectives that are often hidden to be included to give our student the full picture.
hi Chole, thank you for your comment. education is so important and as future teachers we need to make sure that we put our best foot forward to be the best teachers we can be for our students.
Hello Carly! I really enjoyed reading your blog post for this week and loved the words and phrases you chose in your black out poem. I agree that everything is worth learning and students should be learning as much as they can at school. However, I also agree that there is a way to teach our students and be aware of how we are wording things because it can be offensive. If a child feels offended or hurt by an assignment or something that was said by the teacher, then it is the teachers job to apologize and change what they did wrong. No matter how the teacher feels or if the teacher does not think they did anything wrong- the student's feelings come first. School should be a welcoming and inviting place, so no child should ever feel left our or judged in a classroom. Again, great blog post Carly.
